Church History

At St. Emmanuel, we embrace a rich heritage of worship rooted in the ancient traditions of the Orthodox Tewahedo faith. Our church offers a wide range of services, including Mass, Holy Communion, weddings, funerals, and bereavement support, ensuring that our community feels supported at every stage of life.
In addition to our religious services, St. Emmanuel is committed to addressing spiritual and communal challenges. We have played a pivotal role in fostering dialogue and solutions for the Tigray community’s issues, working in tandem with other churches and community leaders. Our efforts include supporting the election and work of the Archbishop in North America, emphasizing our church’s role in uniting and leading our community.
Reflecting on the words of St. David, “I rejoiced when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD” (Psalm 122:1), our church values the spiritual over the material. St. David treasured the spiritual fellowship more than his temporal reign, demonstrating that our greatest joy comes from worship and community rather than earthly accolades. Echoing this sentiment, Psalm 84:10 reminds us, “I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.” This embodies our church’s spirit, where every member finds solace and strength within our sacred walls.
We warmly invite you to join us in celebration and worship. May God bless you! Amen.
